2014 A New Year!

January 6, 2014

It’s time to welcome 2014 with open arms and a wide open heart! YAY! How do you spend your New Years Eve? Do you go out with friends and family or share it with people you love? Or do you spend it on your own? Do you have a ritual that you do every year? Or do you like to see where the day and night may take you?

It fascinates me how people choose to spend this time. It fascinates me that some people absolutely love this day of the year and other people actually use the word “hate” to describe how they feel about NYE. Either way, we each make a choice on how we spend our NYE. And it’s up to each of us who and what we will do & if it’s a good experience or a negative one. I used to make a choice to spend NYE not really caring one way or the other what I did or where I went or who I was with. Then I chose to spend it out and about with friends, usually at a house party or bar, in my new NYE outfit, drinking a lot & hoping that when the clock struck 12 I would have a perfect NYE kiss… I know, I know…

How I used to spend NYE and how i choose to spend NYE now are the exact opposite, but still a choice. I’ve had some pretty pathetic NYE’s as well. One in particular I spent waiting around for someone I loved deeply to choose to spend NYE with me. That didn’t happen. So, { by myself } I watched the saddest movie that reminded me of our special times together, I drank way too many martini’s and got really drunk. Then, I thought it would be a great idea to { symbolically } burn pictures I had still of us together while I was outside in the freezing cold, balling my eyes out. I didn’t get very far before I was so drunk and had to run to the bathroom where I spent the new few hours hanging onto the toilet bowl for dear life. It was { and I felt } truly pathetic… But, I chose { on some level } to wait around for someone who was always, for some reason or another, too scared to pick me. Either way, it was a choice.

The next day, I decided to spend my NYE in a way that would actually mean something to me and I wasn’t going to wait around for someone special to make that night special for me. I would make it special for ME! So, I came up with my own special ritual which involves tidying up my space & cleaning up and is symbolic of cleaning any messes I may have left from the past year so that I can start my new year off organized and ready for a fresh start. It also involves acknowledging what I’ve accomplished in the past year and things I could have done better, thanking & releasing the year so I have the space to welcome a new one and setting intentions for what I want my new year to be all about.

and here’s how it goes…
– clean up the house
– have freshly cleaned sheets, towels and jammies
– make a delicious meal for dinner and enjoy a nice glass of wine
– journal about the past year and acknowledge the obstacles I’ve overcome as well as the accomplishments I’ve made
– write about what I’d like to focus on in the new year, I pick a theme for the year that I can refer to easily with a few words or a saying
– go for a walk to the ocean carrying 2 stones: 1 that I worked with the year before and 1 that I picked to represent the new year
– once I get to the ocean, I bless and thank the past year while holding my stone and I symbolically throw the stone into the water and let it go
– I take out the new stone and as I walk back home I “program” it with my new intentions and theme that I journaled about earlier. I talk about or think about all the things I’d like to do or focus on and I let myself get really excited and grateful for the new year!
– when I get home I go for a nice bath, watch a movie and am tucked in and fast asleep by the time the new year begins.

It’s fun and I always have such a great time. I used to do it alone and now I share it with my partner! It’s one of my favourite times of the year!

I’m always shocked and amazed that the intentions and theme that I set for each new year always end up happening in the most unexpected ways! So thank you 2013 for the lessons and opportunities to grow & share & learn & love!

I’m super excited about 2014! I can feel it’s going to be a special year!
The theme for this year is simplify & trust
My intentions are to focus on clearing away things in my life that no longer serve me, my purpose & priorities. Letting go of the distractions in my life that constantly pull me away from doing what I love. It’s going to be a year of detoxing on all levels and in all areas of my life. Making and having the time, energy and space to focus on my goals & gifts… my purpose & my point.
I feel like this is going to be a big year for a lot of people… do you feel that way? What are your goals or intentions for this year? Do you feel drawn to do things differently this year or do you feel like this year you’re actually going to accomplish big things?

I have been busy doing other things that have needed my attention so I haven’t been able to post as often as I had been. I’ll be posting some things in the near future but it will be sporadic. My apologies now for the inconsistency. Handmade Jade is going to go through a transformation from the ground up. I am passionate about learning & growing and a goal of mine this year is to learn how to completely design handmade jade top to bottom, front to back, inside and out. I’m super excited about it and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the transformation. In the meantime, I will post DIY’s and other tidbits of whatever I’m “all about” at the moment!

Thank you for stopping by, I adore your comments & love! Don’t worry, before you know it I’ll be back with many more crazy ice cream DIY’s  ~  lol

I hope this year brings for you lots of love & peace!

Jade xoxo
